100-Day Countdown Ceremony for the 15th National Games and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & 9th Special Olympics Held in Shenzhen

On the evening of August 2, the 100-day countdown ceremony for the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th Special Olympics was held in Shenzhen.

Present and delivering speeches at the event were Gao Zhidan, Director of the Organizing Committee of the 15th National Games and Director of the General Administration of Sport of China; Cheng Kai, Director of the Organizing Committee of the Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics, and Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation; Wang Weizhong, Executive Director of the Organizing Committee of the 15th National Games and the Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics, Deputy Party Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Governor of Guangdong Province; John Lee Ka-chiu, Executive Director of the Organizing Committee and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR); and Ho Iat Seng, Executive Director of the Organizing Committee and Chief Executive of the Macao SAR. Meng Fanli, Deputy Party Secretary of Guangdong Province and Party Secretary of Shenzhen, also attended the event.


Gao Zhidan remarked that the arrival of the 100-day countdown signals that the grand national sports event, closely followed by the entire country and widely watched globally, has officially entered its final preparation phase. He emphasized that the 15th National Games and the Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics are major political tasks entrusted by General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Party Central Committee to Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, and the Chinese sports community. He called for full implementation of Xi Jinping’s important instructions on sports and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, stressing the need for close cooperation, focus on key milestones, meticulous organization, and ensuring safety, to deliver a high-quality event that reflects institutional strengths, unity, regional characteristics, and Lingnan cultural style. He hoped the Games would channel the power of sports into the Greater Bay Area’s bright future, and contribute new energy to the realization of national modernization and rejuvenation.

Cheng Kai highlighted the Central Government’s deep concern and strong support for people with disabilities and the development of disability-related causes. Successfully hosting the Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics is a concrete step in implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions. With the full support of the General Administration of Sport, Guangdong Province, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR, preparations for the National Games and Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics are progressing in synergy, showcasing the great institutional advantage of "One Country, Two Systems" and the strong cohesion and creativity of the Greater Bay Area. With the countdown now underway, all preparations have entered the final, decisive stage. Cheng expressed full confidence that under the strong leadership of the Central Committee, and with joint efforts from all parties, the event will be splendid and successful.


Wang Weizhong stated that the joint hosting of the National Games and Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao for the first time under the care of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Central Government carries great significance. It showcases the achievements of Chinese modernization in the new era, the institutional strengths of "One Country, Two Systems", the development of the Greater Bay Area, and the high-quality advancement of the national sports sector. With guidance and support from the General Administration of Sport and the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao have been working closely together to uphold the principles of “green, shared, open, and clean” and the goals of “simple, safe, and exciting.” Venue renovations in Guangdong have been completed, accessibility upgrades are fully compliant, 30,000 "Little Dolphin" volunteers are ready, and 1,160 urban improvement projects are underway. In just 100 days, the flame of the National Games will be lit in the Greater Bay Area.

 Guangdong, together with Hong Kong and Macao, will strive toward the highest standards to deliver a sports event that highlights institutional strengths and regional features, and showcases the Lingnan cultural flair. He extended an invitation to athletes nationwide and friends from around the world to come to Guangdong and experience the passion of the Games and the dynamism of the Bay Area.


John Lee Ka-chiu noted that the National Games and Games for Persons with Disabilities and Special Olympics are not only the highest-level national sporting events but also platforms for friendship and inclusion through sports. This is the first time the Games are jointly hosted by the three regions, demonstrating the unity and shared roots of the Greater Bay Area and the Central Government's confidence in its coordinated development. The Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to work closely with the General Administration of Sport, China Disabled Persons’ Federation, Guangdong Provincial Government, and Macao SAR Government to ensure seamless preparation of a “simple, safe, and exciting” sports festival. With only 100 days left, the Hong Kong SAR Government will race against time to ensure that venue readiness, event operations, service support, and security meet the highest standards, showcasing the Bay Area’s vitality to the nation and China’s strength to the world.


Ho Iat Seng emphasized that the National Games, as China’s top-level and most influential comprehensive sports event, is being jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao for the first time—marking a historic milestone. This is also the first time Macao is co-hosting a large-scale national sports event, a testament to the Central Government’s trust and support. It holds long-term significance for the development of sports and the economy in Macao. Macao will aim to deliver a “simple, safe, and exciting” event, presenting its open, dynamic, and inclusive image to the world. He expressed hope that every athlete would achieve personal breakthroughs in Macao and every spectator would experience Macao’s hospitality and warmth. Ho concluded by expressing confidence that, under the leadership of the Central Government and through the united efforts of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the Games will be a spectacular, unique, and memorable success, and a new chapter in regional cooperation under “One Country, Two Systems,” contributing to the goal of building China into a strong sports nation and achieving national rejuvenation.
