On May 23, with the final whistle of the last Greco-Roman wrestling match, the 2025 National Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship and the 15th National Games Qualifying Tournament for Greco-Roman Wrestling successfully concluded at the Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center.

As the highest-level wrestling event in China, the championship attracted top wrestlers from across the country, including 12 athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics, gathering in Longwan District, Wenzhou. Notably, Wenzhou native Chen Xin, representing Team Zhejiang, triumphed in the 72kg Greco-Roman category, securing the gold medal and bringing honor to his hometown.

The event kicked off on May 15 and lasted for nine days, drawing a total of 1,249 athletes from 58 teams representing provinces, municipalities, sports academies, and industry associations. The athletes competed fiercely across 30 weight categories in three wrestling disciplines: men's freestyle, women's freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling.

The competition was divided into two levels: National Games and non-National Games categories. The National Games level adopted a single-elimination format with repechage, with the top 16 in each category advancing to the finals. The non-National Games level used a single-elimination format with a single repechage. Matches were held sequentially in the order of men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Over nine days, athletes gave their all, with each match filled with tension and excitement. In the end, the tournament awarded 288 National Games qualification slots across 18 categories and crowned 12 non-National Games champions.

Wenzhou has successfully hosted the National Wrestling Championships for five consecutive years, gaining extensive experience in event organization. The 2025 tournament was hosted by the Weightlifting, Wrestling, and Judo Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Wrestling Association, and organized by the Wenzhou Sports Bureau and the People’s Government of Longwan District. With this event concluded, the finals for the wrestling discipline of the 15th National Games will be held in Qingyuan, Guangdong, this November.
