On September 7, 2025, the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Beijing will take place at the National Olympic Sports Center Stadium. This marks the return of a top-level World Athletics event to Beijing, 10 years after the city hosted the 2015 World Athletics Championships.
The Continental Tour Gold is one of the highest-level one-day track and field competitions, second only to the Diamond League. As the final major competition before the Tokyo World Championships, the Beijing meeting has attracted numerous world-class athletes, including Olympic and world champions, with over 100 athletes from more than 20 countries and regions expected to participate.

The program in Beijing features 14 events — seven for men and seven for women. Men’s events include the 100m, 400m, 800m, 110m hurdles, pole vault, high jump, and long jump; women’s events include the 100m, 1500m, 3000m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, shot put, and javelin.
Among the international athletes heading to Beijing are Olympic champions, world champions, and world record holders. Chinese athletes also see this as a prime opportunity to compete at home against elite opponents, while preparing for the upcoming Tokyo World Championships and the National Games.
China’s star sprinter Xie Zhenye will race in the men’s 100m, alongside Canadian Olympic champion Andre De Grasse. Puerto Rico’s Benitez and the USA’s Hicklin, both with sub-10-second personal bests, will also compete. The hurdles will feature Chinese athletes Chen Yuanjiang, Xu Zhuoyi, and Qin Weibai against U.S. contender Crittenden and rising Japanese talent Ryuji Abe. Born in 2006, Chen Yuanjiang aims to become the second Chinese hurdler after Liu Xiang to break the 13-second barrier.
In men’s pole vault, China’s Huang Bokai and Li Chenyang, who both cleared 5.85m this year to share the national record, will face Olympic silver medalist and Asian record holder Obiena. In women’s javelin, world U20 record holder Yan Ziyi has a chance to reach the podium. In women’s shot put, two-time World Indoor Champion and current world No. 2 Sarah Mitton of Canada will compete against Paris Olympic silver medalist Valerie Adams-Walsh of New Zealand and former Diamond League champion Maggie Ewen of the USA.
Middle- and long-distance races are also set to deliver exciting matchups. In the men’s 400m, China’s Liu Kai recently set a national record of 45.06 seconds and will aim to break the 45-second barrier. Liu Dezhu will compete in the men’s 800m, facing several international athletes with personal bests around 1:43. In the women’s 3000m, China’s Liang Tiantian, who recently won double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m at the National Championships, will also be in action.
Over the course of just two hours, the Beijing meeting will combine sprints, jumps, and throws, showcasing the power and beauty of athletics with a blend of track and field highlights. Preparations for the event are now in their final stage. Ticket sales will launch this week, with a range of pricing options available to meet the needs of different fans.
