According to the Chinese Athletics Association, the 2025 National U20 Athletics Championships concluded on June 24 in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Shanghai athlete Chen Yuan claimed the title in the men’s 110m hurdles (99cm) with a time of 12.96 seconds, setting a new Asian U20 record for the event.

In this championship, the men’s 110m hurdles featured hurdle heights of 99cm, as opposed to the standard 106.7cm height used in senior competitions. The 19-year-old Chen Yuan ranked first in the preliminary round on June 23 with a time of 13.33 seconds. In the final on June 24, he won the gold medal with a remarkable time of 12.96 seconds, surpassing the previous Asian U20 record of 13.19 set by Japan’s Shunsuke Izumiya in 2018.

The current U20 world record for the 110m hurdles (99cm) is 12.72 seconds, set by France’s Sasha Zhoya in 2021. Chen Yuan’s 12.96 now ranks as the second-fastest time in U20 history for the event.

Liu Guangheng from Team Zhejiang took silver with a personal best of 13.71 seconds, while Peng Yu from Sichuan claimed bronze with 13.77 seconds.

This season, Chen Yuan has also continued to improve in senior-level competitions using 106.7cm hurdles. His current personal best in the senior men’s 110m hurdles stands at 13.28 seconds, set earlier this month at the National Athletics Grand Prix in Bengbu.
