On August 10, in the women’s synchronized trampoline event at the Chengdu World Games, China’s Hu Yicheng and Zhang Xinxin clinched the gold medal, narrowly defeating the Japanese pair thanks to their steady mindset and perfect coordination.

In the qualification round, world champion and Paris Olympian Hu Yicheng teamed up with Asian Championships champion Zhang Xinxin to deliver a consistent performance, scoring 50.590 points to advance strongly. In the evening session, the long-time partners continued to focus on stability — first eliminating a Canadian pair who made mistakes in the semifinals, and then securing victory in the final with 51.340 points. The Japanese pair and the Canadian pair took silver and bronze, respectively.

After winning the title, both athletes said, “Right now we just want to take a good nap.” Hu Yicheng added, “The people of Chengdu are so warm and welcoming. I had so many plans in mind, but unfortunately, I couldn’t make them happen since we’re leaving tomorrow.”

China’s final opponents, the Japanese team, had excelled in the semifinals, scoring 49.600 points to eliminate the British team led by Paris Olympic champion Bryony Page — a score higher than the 48.980 points China earned in their own semifinal.

Recalling the tense moments, the two Chinese athletes said, “We didn’t think too much about it. Actually, we were confident because our routine had a higher degree of difficulty. But higher difficulty also means we must execute at a higher quality level, so we needed to stay very calm and just focus on doing our job.”

Both Hu Yicheng, 26, and Zhang Xinxin, 21, hail from the Shanxi provincial team and have known each other for 11 years, gradually developing their chemistry through long-term cooperation. “Honestly, Sister Hu is a bit accommodating toward me, otherwise our synchronization score would be much lower,” Zhang Xinxin said with a smile.
