The FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Milan concluded in the early hours of July 21 (Beijing time), with the Chinese team claiming 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. In the group events, China took gold in the 3 Balls + 2 Ropes final and bronze in the Group All-Around. In the individual events, Wang Zilu earned a bronze in the clubs final. Thanks to strong performances in Baku, Tashkent, and Milan, the Chinese team also secured the overall Group All-Around title for the 2025 World Cup series, successfully defending their title from last year.

At the Milan stop, the Chinese group team underwent some lineup changes. In addition to the five athletes who competed earlier this year — Wang Lanjing, Ding Xinyi, Pu Yanzhu, Zhang Xinyi, and Liu Miaoting — newcomer Zhao Wanzhu joined the squad. During the qualification round, which also served as the Group All-Around competition, China made several mistakes in the 5 Ribbons routine, scoring 22.700 points. However, the team quickly adjusted and delivered a strong 3 Balls + 2 Ropes routine, scoring 27.500 points. With a total of 50.200, China secured the bronze. Brazil and Japan took gold and silver respectively, with scores of 52.850 and 50.550.
In the 3 Balls + 2 Ropes final, China delivered their best routine of the season, earning a top score of 28.200 to narrowly beat Japan, the top qualifier, by 0.200 points for the gold. Brazil won the bronze. In the 5 Ribbons final, China improved slightly from their qualification performance, scoring 24.600 points to finish fourth. Italy, Poland, and Japan took the top three places.
Earlier in the year, the Chinese group team achieved impressive results at the Baku and Tashkent stops — winning 1 gold and 2 silvers in Baku, and 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze in Tashkent. With the addition of 1 gold and 1 bronze in Milan, China topped the overall points standings and successfully defended their Group All-Around series title from last season.
In the individual events in Milan, China was represented by Wang Zilu and Wang Zihan. Wang Zilu, who suffers from asthma, missed all previous stops this year, making Milan her first appearance of the season. Despite her condition, she showed great determination in competition, though the illness still affected her performance. In the All-Around qualification, she scored 27.100 (hoop), 22.200 (ball), 29.100 (clubs), and 24.950 (ribbon), with a total score of 103.350 to place 25th. Her clubs routine placed her 4th in qualification, earning a spot in the final.
In the clubs final, Wang Zilu impressed with her artistry, scoring 28.800 points to win the bronze medal. She was only 0.6 and 0.05 points behind the gold and silver medalists — Nikolova of Bulgaria and Raffaeli of Italy — giving her greater confidence for the upcoming World Championships in Brazil this August.
Young gymnast Wang Zihan, a newcomer to the World Cup circuit earlier this year, is still catching up to the world’s top level, but has gained valuable experience from these competitions. She finished 28th in the All-Around in Milan with a total score of 101.650 points.
