On July 10th, during the girls’ singles junior (older age group) competition at the 2025 Chinese Figure Skating Club League stop in Jinan, Liu Yuxuan from the Guangzhou Figure Skating Team successfully landed a quadruple Salchow (4S), becoming the first female Chinese singles skater to complete this high-difficulty element in an official competition. Competing in both the senior and junior divisions, Liu went on to claim two gold medals in a single day.

At just 12 years old, Liu Yuxuan faced the challenge of skating four programs over two days during the Jinan leg of the club league—a major test of her endurance. In the two short programs held the day before, she was already in fine form, executing difficult elements including a triple toe loop–triple loop combination and a triple lutz with high quality. On the 10th, during the junior free skate, Liu opened with an attempt at the 4S—an element that had long challenged her—and successfully landed it. She went on to deliver a stable and polished program, securing a decisive win in her group.

Just a few hours later, Liu returned to the ice for the senior division, where she had ranked second after the short program. Despite making adjustments to her program layout, she delivered a flawless performance. With an excellent free skate and a total score of 188.89 points, she came from behind to claim the senior title—achieving the rare feat of winning two championships in a single day.

The quadruple jump is considered one of the most technically demanding elements in modern figure skating. Under the pressure of a packed competition schedule, Liu demonstrated remarkable technical progress. Since the start of the season just two weeks ago, her development has been evident: from her first public attempt at the 4S during the Guangzhou City Games, to improved rotation calls at the provincial championships, and now to this successful landing—her execution has steadily refined.

This breakthrough marks not only a significant milestone in the progress of Chinese figure skating but also a new step forward for the sport in Guangzhou. In the past year, Liu Yuxuan has made rapid progress, mastering all five types of triple jumps and rising quickly to the ranks of the country's top skaters. She has earned numerous podium finishes at national events including the Club League, National Junior Championships, and National Championships. She also played a key role in helping the Guangdong team win silver in the team event at the 14th National Winter Games. Last season, in her international debut, she won a bronze medal for Team China at the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy.
