National Curling Training Team Carries Out Patriotic Education and Campus Outreach Activities
Jun 04 2025

Reflecting on history, the athletes learned that despite extremely harsh conditions during the war, the faculty and students of the Southwest Associated University upheld the school motto of “Perseverance and Fortitude,” preserving the flame of education in the southwestern frontier. During those turbulent years, they nurtured and delivered a great number of talented individuals for the nation. The curling athletes expressed that by deeply understanding the struggles of the university’s staff and students during the War of Resistance, they were profoundly moved by the unwavering patriotism and dedication to education shown by the intellectuals at the time. This spirit of resilience in the face of adversity mirrors the athletes' perseverance on the field and has infused the team with powerful motivation as they prepare for the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.

Following the visit, the national curling team split into two groups to carry out "Curling Into Campus" volunteer activities in Kunming. The men’s and women’s teams went to Yunnan Normal University to promote the sport and exchange with local students. Athletes Fei Xueqing, Han Yu, and Zhang Jiaqi shared their experiences with students from Yunnan Normal University and Kunming Economic Development District Experimental Primary School. Each athlete spoke on a different topic, covering the development of curling, personal training and competition experiences, and insights into the sport, showcasing the youthful spirit of China’s young curling players beyond the ice rink.

Meanwhile, head coach of the mixed doubles curling team, Zhou Yan, led three athletes to Yunnan University Affiliated Huizhan School for a special curling lecture. Zhou gave a detailed introduction to the rules of curling and the development history of China's national curling team. Drawing from her own journey from athlete to coach, she encouraged students to love their country, appreciate their teachers, and strive for excellence. During the interactive session, students expressed their enthusiasm and support for curling, and gained a deeper understanding of the sporting spirit of striving for national glory, perseverance, and teamwork. Many expressed their determination to follow the example of the athletes, study hard, pursue their dreams courageously, and contribute to the nation.

The national curling team will take this visit and volunteer service as an opportunity to integrate the Lianda spirit of “Perseverance and Fortitude” into their training, and with stronger belief and greater tenacity, forge ahead in their preparation for the Milan Winter Olympics.
