The second day of the 2025 National Athletics Grand Prix in Qingdao featured fierce competition, with events held on June 19, 2025. Multiple champions emerged, with the men's high jump and the men's and women's 100m races drawing particular attention.

In the men's high jump, strong contender Wang Zhen was not in his best form and ended up with a silver medal. Although he cleared a height of 2.20 meters, he failed to surpass higher marks. The champion also cleared 2.20 meters and set a new personal best, edging out Wang Zhen based on countback. Chinese men's high jump still lacks dominant athletes, especially when compared to Asia's top jumper Woo Sang-hyeok, who consistently clears over 2.30 meters on the international stage. Chinese athletes still have room for improvement to reach that level.
In the women's 100m sprint, the experienced 34-year-old Wei Yongli pulled off a surprise victory, winning gold with a time of 11.57 seconds. Kong Lingyao, who has previously represented China in international competitions, took the silver medal.
Wei Yongli has represented China many times in the past, but age has gradually led her to step away from the national team, making way for the younger generation. She is likely to retire at the end of this season, as 34 is considered a veteran age for sprinters.
Meanwhile, in the women's shot put, Chinese star Gong Lijiao delivered an outstanding performance, winning gold with a margin of over 3 meters. She was the only athlete in the event to throw beyond 18 meters, reaffirming her dominance in the discipline.

Gai Lijuan won the women’s javelin event, while in the men’s 100m, Li Zeyang defeated Chen Jiapeng to take the title. Veteran sprinter Su Bingtian made a comeback but unfortunately did not advance beyond the preliminaries. In the men’s 400m hurdles, Xie Zhiyu proved once again that he is a leading figure in the Chinese team.
