On May 8, the 2025 Archery World Cup Shanghai stage held the recurve men’s and women’s team elimination rounds and bronze medal matches. The Chinese women’s team delivered a strong performance, advancing to the final where they will face South Korea on May 11. The Chinese men’s team was defeated 2-6 by South Korea in the quarterfinals, finishing in sixth place.
In the women’s recurve team eliminations, the Chinese team—composed of Li Jiaman, Zhu Jingyi, and Huang Yuwei—first swept Kazakhstan 6-0. In the quarterfinals, they were pushed to a shoot-off by Italy after a 4-4 draw, but remained composed and won the shoot-off 26-22. In the semifinals, China again won 6-0 against Mexico to secure their place in the final. The South Korean team earned their final berth by defeating Slovenia, Turkey, and Chinese Taipei. In the bronze medal match, Chinese Taipei beat Mexico 5-1.
The Chinese men's team, which had won gold at the previous World Cup stage in the U.S., was ranked ninth in the qualification round, which put psychological pressure on them at the start of the eliminations. In the round of 16 against Australia, Wang Yan, Li Zhongyuan, and Kao Wenchao started nervously, losing the first two sets 51-55 and 49-55. They adjusted their mindset and came back with a 51-49 win in the third set and a narrow 55-54 win in the fourth. They then won the shoot-off 24-21 to advance to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, they were eliminated by powerhouse South Korea after losing 2-6 despite taking the first two points. In the bronze medal match, the United States defeated India 5-3 to claim third place. The gold medal match will be between South Korea and France.
On May 9, the mixed team and individual recurve elimination rounds will take place.
