Gao Zhidan Meets with Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Lat Seng and Supervises Preparations for the 15th National Games
Apr 22 2025

On April 20, Gao Zhidan, Director of the General Administration of Sport of China and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 15th National Games, met with Ho Lat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The two sides exchanged views on the preparations for the 15th National Games (hereinafter referred to as the “Games”) and sports exchange and cooperation between the two regions.

Gao Zhidan stated that this is the first time the National Games will be jointly hosted by three regions, which is a significant initiative by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to deepen the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and to promote better integration of Hong Kong and Macao into the overall national development. Thanks to the strong commitment and efforts of Chief Executive Ho Lat Seng and the SAR government, preparations in the Macao competition zone have been well-organized, progressing smoothly, and are essentially in place—laying a solid foundation for the successful hosting of the Games. He expressed hope that the three regions—Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao—would further strengthen communication and coordination, implement the principles of “green, shared, open, and honest” event organization, and meet the requirements of “simplicity, safety, and excellence” to jointly present a high-level and distinctive edition of the National Games. Guided by President Xi Jinping’s speech at the ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inauguration of the sixth-term Macao SAR government, the General Administration of Sport will take the joint hosting of the Games as an opportunity to align with national development strategies such as the Greater Bay Area initiative, further enhance sports cooperation between the two regions, and better support the development of sports in Macao.

Ho Lat Seng expressed gratitude to the General Administration of Sport for its support of Macao’s sports development and the preparations for the Games. He said that Macao would make every effort to ensure the smooth organization of the Games and contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He also expressed hope that, with the support of the General Administration of Sport, Macao would have the opportunity to host more sports events in the future to serve the region’s economic and social development.

During his stay in Macao, Gao Zhidan also inspected the venues for basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and karate competitions for the 15th National Games. He held a preparatory meeting with the Cultural and Social Affairs Department of Macao and the local organizing committee to discuss the ongoing preparations.
