Recently, the 2025 Guangdong Youth Handball Championships were held at Shantou Sports Center and Shaoxiu Sports Gymnasium in Xinyi, Maoming. A total of 482 athletes from 18 men’s and women’s teams across the province delivered exciting matchups.

The Guangzhou handball delegation fielded 61 athletes, who fought with determination and ultimately achieved outstanding results. The men’s team clinched the Group A championship and placed third in Group B, earning one gold, one bronze, and 45 total points to finish second overall. They were also awarded the “Sportsmanship Award.” Players Liu Zirui, Wu Dongming, and Tan Jieyang received the “Outstanding Athlete” title, while coach Wen Jie was named “Outstanding Coach.” The women’s team secured third place in Group A and fifth in Group B, also receiving the Sportsmanship Award. Players Chen Yao, Huang Yankai, and Liu Silin were each honored with the “Athlete Sportsmanship Award.”

In the final against a strong Qingyuan side, Liu Zirui once again shone with an explosive performance, scoring 8 points in a single period. His efforts greatly boosted team morale, forced the opponents to adjust tactics, and exposed defensive gaps. The Guangzhou squad seized the opportunity, pushing forward with relentless attacks to secure a 35–29 victory and a valuable gold medal.

Following the conclusion of the provincial championships, Liu Zirui will join the national youth team training program and, in November, travel with the squad to Bahrain for the Asian Youth Men’s Handball. Championship.
